Presidential Candidate Ron Paul Blacklisted by Charter Internet?

I heartily accept the motto, that government is best which governs least ... Carried out, it finally amounts to this, which I also believe, that government is best which governs not at all; and when men are prepared for it, that will be the kind of government which they will have. -- from Henry David Toreau's lecture on "Resistance to Civil Government"

What does the big internet service provider, Charter, have against Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul? As of this evening it seems that Charter has designated the web address of Paul's campaign, www.ronpaul2008.com , as SPAM and refuses to allow its internet service customers email to pass through its system if it contains the forbidden address. Shades of conspiracy or bureaucratic snafu? More likely the latter I'm sure, however, as an unrepentant supporter of uninhibited public discourse and admirer of the man I really hate to see Ron Paul put at a disadvantage if this is more than just a problem local to our network.

As this editor happens to be a subscriber of Charter's service we figured that a call to the company's tech support line was in order. Charter is usually pretty prompt at serving callers, but one still has to navigate an automated calling tree that is only a little bit like having root canal. The problem here is that tech support is not for dealing with big questions like "why is a presidential candidate's address tagged as SPAM in you system?". After about 20 minutes of talking to an intermediary who relayed our concerns to a supervisor while we waited on hold to have that supervisor's comments and questions relayed back to us by a very polite and patient support technician we were told to submit the report through a web based reporting page. I look forward to seeing how long it takes to get the problem cleared up. By the way, this is the first time in our lives life that an outgoing email was rejected by our ISP for any reason and that in itself was a little bit unsettling.
